I have always preferred to go by Jo to those I considered my friends. As a child to family I was JoJo. For the most, it's JoEllyn at work. But I think the next time around it will be Jo to start with because so many struggle with it. (Some also think Jo is masculine, as is Joey, and will insist on the full name - just proving you can't make everyone happy.)

My name is Melissa, and I can't stand when people shorten my name. it becomes "Mel" - and that's a man's name. Now I know there are women named Mel, but it just doesn't work for me...it could have something to do with being called a boy(because of my short hair) when I was younger. At Work, it's a whole other issue! Everyone in my office has a 4 digit name, except me! So my boss decided to "rename" me Tiff...which I have no idea where that came from. Now it's like I'm two People!! oh the good side, and the evil side!
So if people have to shorten my name, I prefer Missa.

Can I call you missy?
Here in the south we shorten Melissa to Missy.
Is it a southern thing?

Well I do not care for names ending in ' i '. It is unfinished. ' ie ' might be even worse?

Sadly, it seems we are stuck at an "impasse". an 'a' is finished...and either way my name ends with 'a'....so I leave the decision up to you!

My mum still calls me tots to this day! I was the younger sibling, so she called me tiny tots or Tina tots, then my younger sister came along. I got demoted to tots, and she got called sausage! My little girl actually gained a syllable, she went from Brooke, to Brookie. I on the other hand lost several.
