SEO, Search Engine Optimalization, is about the things you can do to get a higher ranking on google and other search engines. A higher ranking means that the site will be shown closer to the top results. The ranking will differ per keyword(s). For example, a site may score high for the keywords 'hay day boat crates' and much lower for the keywords 'hay day'. If you like to help to optimize this forum for search engines, there are several things you can do: * search for playhayday.boards.net in google or other search engines. This search request coming from different IPs from all over the world, will score ranking points. * if you have a website or facebook page, it would be fantastic if you could add a link to this forum. Like this: <a href="http://playhayday.boards.net/">playhayday.bords.net - Forum, Hay Day Love and Trading</a>. It may work or look different on facebook, or if you use a HTML generator. Google LOVES links, they assume that the more links point to a certain website, the more important that website apparently is. * every link counts. Even if you don't have a site or page of your own, you may see an opportunity to add a link to this forum in a message or signature on another forum, add it to a directory, post it in a twitter message, etc. * mods, do you have the possibility to change the title tag of each page? If yes, it would be worth the effort to carefully choose the title words for each and every page. Yay, team Playhayday.boards.net !

Karen.
Be very careful. What you say is true, but Google takes a dim view of spamming.
If I covered my food website with links to here it would be a BAD thing as it is link spam and also not relevant.
Good links are contextual, relevant and natural.

Found the answer to my own question The title tag is the title of the post, by default. For the main pages, it's what the mods named it. It could be worth the change to add the word Forum, to the title of one of the main pages? That would score a lot of ranking points for the keyword search 'hay day forum'.

You should never ever add a bunch of links to 1 website. The risk of being penalized or even banned by google is too high. Contextual links, yes. But imo it won't hurt your ste if you have a place for miscellaneous links, somewhere - but not on your main page. I've had these for years, and still have, on various websites. Google doesn't disapprove of that, it's common practice.

Karen, Are you also a freelancer or blogger? I am impressed as people let slip hints about themselves or their knowledge about certain topics. Website owners intrigue me. My husband has one to show off his wood turning projects, but I have never set up a web page nor do I have any reason to do. I consider myself somewhat computer savvy, but these forums have shown me to be otherwise. from those who would be inclined to make a smart remark or two. (You know who you are. )

I can get a basic Wordpress site live within 15 mins from buying the domain and an e-mail address set up.
It all depends how fast the DNS points. (this is the technical bit that tells your search engine which server to visit to pick up the site).
For some reason when you register a new domain it points almost instantly.

I'm not a blogger, but I run several websites that create a nice income next to what we earn having a private business. I'd actually like to tell some more about it, but prefer do so in the members only/personal area of this board

Based on some of your comments in the past, I knew you must have more computer knowledge than the average person.

Well thank you Ann! No, I don't feel you're nosy, not at all. You're interested, and that's nice! And you're old(er) , but not nosy!

Advertising and recruiting is good. However, We don't have a DNS server and are not a registered Domain, other than an IP address which we are renting. DNS can take 12/24 hours to point with a legit IP. Search engines will shut you down if you start spamming. One of our employees opened a .zip file and we couldn't send email for days. Recruiting is good but as stated, we need to be careful to not aggravate the search engines.

Somewhat related... I see some of you have your farm names as 'playhayday.boards.net'... is it okay if I do that too?

Quote copied from the 'thank you for boat help' thread: Jill, are you the one with the avatar that I couldn't figure out? It's generic on the boat crate so I didn't know. Hippo put "Hip" after her farm name, and I added Ann to mine. Might help if all of us with the playhayday.boards.net name did it. Yes? No? Might make it easier when scrolling through the boat list. Excellent idea hippo/ ann. I added KK to my farm name.

I am getting excited about the chat feature of the new update. I think this could be a great way to promote the forum if it's going to work the way CoC works. Meaning you can chat with the global community or FB/GC friends!!
