Camden Ann? That is just up the interstate from me, maybe thirty miles.. Carrie has an uncle with a house there and I did an extensive project for their tax assessor's office when I worked for the University. Camden is a nice southern town! Snow is rare, ice not so much. I remember a lot of ice storms growing up.

Ann, I am at work! Making snow and ice removal priority maps and mapping where our steel plates are located on our water and sewer cuts in our roadway system. FUN!

This may be a silly question, but if I don't ask, I will forever wonder... What is a ice storm, is it the same as hail?

It is when it rains but it is freezing at the surface so it builds up on trees and power lines causing them to fail. The limbs block the street and take out power lines. It is NASTY! We could be out power for days!

We could be out power for days! Wow!! Jon! I have never seen snowing! May I ask how people can withstand the freezing cold if there is power failure for days?

Well Ada, bundle up, LOL, layers and layers of clothes. Most have wood burning fire places and even stoves. Here in the south, we have neither, lol! Fortunately, the temperature outside will increase a lot each day. This snow/ice will melt by Thursday and they are forecasting temperatures of 70 by Sunday!
Can you believe that!? 70 on Sunday!
The old saying here in the south is, ' You don't like the weather? Just give it a few minutes!'

Here is freezing today and a cold mass is coming... form where? The British Islands of course!! It hasn't snow in downtown Madrid this year.. (only once but was nothing) but in the mountains is all full of snow... My colleague at work was planning to go ski this weekend to the pyrenees, and she had to cancel as the bad weather is affecting really hard the area. The north of Spain is being affected by big waves and floods...
Ada, you should go and see at least once in life the snow...more than snow I will say SNOWING... is so beautiful... if you don't have anything to do like work, or take kids to school!

I shudder just to imagine the freezing cold and me shivering on the snowy streets!! Is it really that fun and enjoyable? Here in Hong Kong, our weather authorities issue "Cold Weather Warning" when the temperature falls below 12 degrees celsius. Maybe you guys in Europe and America will consider this as "warm weather"?

When the forecast is that it will be freezing seriously for some time, about half of the Dutch population gets very excited. Most people in The Netherlands love ice skating. And if it freezes long enough, there may be an 'Elfsteden Tocht' ("11 cities trail). This is an ice skating challenge, an organized trail along 11 cities in the north of our small country. The trail is 200 kilometers long, so it's not easy to accomplish. Still, thousands of people participate, 16000 actually. Tens of thousands more want to participated but don't get to start since the maximum of participants is limited. And millions of people, almost everyone living here, will follow this event on live TV.
But we don't have many really cold winters here. So, the Elfsteden Tocht can be organized once every 15 years or so, on average.
I've never particpated, nor do I plan to, ever. I love the event though. Crazy Dutch people...

We are just starting with freezing rain, but it hasn't gotten to the black ice stage yet. We're still expecting snow. Want to make a bet on how many inches of snow we each get? Our prediction has been halved since yesterday. Oh, forget the bet. You're further north than I, so I would lose; and I'm tired of losing!
